Contest history

The Canada’s Outstanding Young Farmers Contest was launched in 1979 by the Jaycees of Canada to honour young producers who were able to obtain notable results after establishing themselves as producers.

In each of the seven regions/provinces of Canada, a producer who distinguishes him or herself within the region is chosen to represent it. Each year, the judges choose two individuals (or a couple) from among the seven finalists to be named “Canada’s Outstanding Young Farmer”. In Quebec a committee of former provincial honorees is in charge of the contest.

For the structure of the contest, Canada is divided into 7 regions
• Pacific British Columbia and the Yukon
• Northwest Alberta and the Northwest Territories
• Prairies Saskatchewan
• Central Canada Manitoba
• Québec Québec
• Atlantic The Maritime Provinces
